I would say the same thing if the Online and computer games promoted violence and hatred, then Yes, it can become harmful to your children's behavior.
But if the Online and computer games are educational, then I would say, that these types are very beneficial for the learning process of children.

It is not my intention to suggest that parents should only use this method for learning. But to instead include as part of the kid's daily learning activities.
Reading or writing should never be replaced with only computer methods but instead make it part of it.
This computer related method can be very helpful to children's learning and at the same time making their daily learning activities a more enjoyable one.
Even though my kids are not over 8 years old. All these methods can be applied to older kids.
Not all kids will be interested in computer games but rather into more non-computer related activities such as writing, puzzles, reading, and coloring. Therefore I have put together a page with some great educational resources that involves writing and coloring.
In conclusion, we as parents have the resources available to offer our children an opportunity to take advantage of this wonderful ocean of information the Internet has to offer.
